ASHLAND, Va. – The Susquehanna men's lacrosse team
ended a brief, two-game roadtrip with a 13-8 loss to Randolph-Macon
in Ashland, Va.
The Crusaders (2-3) were down by only two goals at halftime but
were limited to just three scores over the final two quarters.
Carmen Raroha (Voorhees, N.J./Bishop Eustace) led
SU with three goals and one assist and Ryan
Buckley (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward
Melville) finished with two goals. They were two of five
different players to find the back of the net. Jared
Knowlton (North Salem, N.Y./Kent School) started the game
in goal and played the first 30 minutes, finishing with three
saves. Ted Benoit (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) played
the final 30 minutes and made nine saves.
Randolph-Macon (3-3) had 39 ground balls to SU's 16 and won
19-of-21 face-offs.
Susquehanna scored two of the three first-quarter goals to lead
2-1 after the first 15 minutes of action. The second half saw a
combined nine goals but only three were scored by SU. Buckley did
score back-to-back goals to keep the Crusaders ahead by one (5-4)
but Randolph-Macon scored the final three goals of the half to take
a 7-5 lead at the midway point of the game.
Randolph-Macon held Susquehanna without a goal in the third
quarter while the Yellow Jackets tacked on two goals to pad their
lead to 9-5 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Crusaders were able to close the gap to four goals (11-7)
midway through the quarter but did not pull any closer as
Randolph-Macon's lead held up.
SU returns home to host Franklin & Marshall on March 12 at 3
p.m.
