Baseball Suffers Extra-Inning Setback to Drew

Box Score

MADISON, N.J. – The Susquehanna baseball dropped its series finale to Drew, falling 3-2 in 10 innings in Madison, N.J. Despite the loss, SU clinched a spot in the Landmark Conference Tournament.

The Crusaders (22-9, 11-4) tied the game at two in the top of the seventh but the Rangers (13-16, 7-7) pulled out the win in their half of the 10th inning.

SU had just eight hits in the game with Dylan Glassmire (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks South) accounting for two of those hits. Nick Kennedy (Brookeville, Md./Good Council) had one hit and drove in both of his team's runs.

Luc Kocher (Middlebury Center, Pa./Elkland) got the start and pitched the first eight innings of the game. He scattered five hits and two runs (none earned) with five strikeouts. A.J. Pinto (Bronxville, N.Y./Fordham Prep) entered the game in relief in the ninth but gave up the game-winning hit with one out in the 10th.

SU got on the board first when Kennedy drew a bases-loaded walk. The Rangers got that run back in the bottom of the fourth before adding another run the very next inning for a 2-1 lead.

It remained 2-1 in favor of Drew before Kennedy's seventh-inning, one-out double to left field scored Tom Shields (Chalftont, Pa./Central Bucks South), who had reached base with a leadoff single.

Glassmire led off the eighth inning with a double to right center but was eft stranded and a one-out walk to Kennedy in the ninth also failed to result in a run for SU. Fortunately Kocher also held Drew scoreless in the eighth inning while Pinto tossed a shutout ninth inning.

In the top of the 10th, Dylan Jenkins (Glen Mills, Pa./Bayard Rustin) doubled down the right field line with one out but never got beyond second base.

Pinto remained in the game in the top of the 10th but a Drew hit and SU throwing error set up Al Krause to come through with the game-winning hit, a single down the right field line.

Susquehanna returns home to host Lebanon Valley on April 22 at 4 p.m.
