Box Score

Box Score

FREDERICK, Md. – Despite trailing by one goal at halftime, the Susquehanna men's lacrosse team outscored Hood 9-2 in the second half to defeat the Blazers 12-6 on Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore Jake Calder (Lutherville, Md. / Dulaney) led all scorers with three goals on the day, all coming in the second half. Nick Citron (Chatham, N.J. / Chatham) and Ryan Buckley (Stony Brook, N.Y. / Ward Melville) each added two goals apiece with Buckley and Adam Fox (Brookfield, Conn. / Brookfield) both registering a team-high six shots.

Junior netminder Jared Knowlton (North Salem, N.Y. / Kent School) earned the victory, recording four saves and allowing just two goals while playing the second half. Freshman Jonathan Berg (Chester, N.J. / Mendham) started the contest and made five stops in the first half.

The Crusaders outshot the Blazers 37-32 and forced 19 Hood turnovers during the game as SU now moves to 5-0 against Hood since the 2010 season.

SU (6-5) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead less than three minutes into the game thanks to goals by Chet McLaughlin (Chatham, N.J. / Chatham) and Carmen Raroha (Voorhees, N.J. / Bishop Eustace), but that advantage was quickly erased by Hood (3-7) as the Blazers countered with three consecutive goals to put the Crusaders into a 3-2 deficit.

Fox tallied a goal at 10:06 in the second period to knot the game at 3-3. However, the tie was not for long as the Blazers retook the lead less than two minutes later and SU went into intermission behind 4-3.

The second half was a different story for the Orange & Maroon. Calder notched his first goal of the day off a feed from Raroha with 2:49 to play in the third quarter to tie the game at 4-4. After a man-up goal by the Blazers, Citron got on the board with only 14 seconds left in the period to knot the contest at 5-5 heading to the fourth quarter.

Hood regained the lead only 1:40 into the final period but SU rattled off seven unanswered scores. Calder tied the game at 6-6 before Buckley recorded a man-up goal at 10:53 and the Crusaders never relinquished the lead for the remainder of the contest.

The Crusaders host Goucher in a Landmark Conference contest on Saturday at 1 p.m.
