GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Susquehanna softball team dropped a 10-5 decision at Gettysburg with game two of the scheduled doubleheader called with one out in the top of the fourth inning due to a lightning delay.

Sam LaCoe (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) was 2-for-3 with a run scored, Brittany Devlin (Furlong, Pa./Central Bucks East) was 2-for-2 with a run scored and Sarah Bush (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor Plainsboro North) went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Jamie Fesinstine (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) started the game and pitched the first five innings, giving up nine runs on nine hits with two walks and one strikeout. Morgan Lewis (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) pitched the final inning and gave up one run on one hit.

The Bullets (17-13) put their first two runners on base to start the bottom of the first and both eventually came around to score for a 2-0 Gettysburg lead.

In the bottom of the third, the Bullets added four runs on three hits, including a two-run homer off the bat of Abby Ferguson that made it 6-0.

The Crusaders (19-12) got one of those runs back the very next inning when a wild pitch allowed LaCoe to score after she had reached base on a one-out double to left field. Gettysburg, though, plated two runs in the bottom half of the inning for an 8-1 ballgame.

However, SU scored two runs in both the fifth and sixth inning to cut what had been a seven-run lead to just three (8-5). In the fifth, Brianna Murphy's (Hazlet, N.J./Mater Dei Prep) triple scored the first run and a RBI groundout by Stephanie Chlebove (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) plated the second run.

The next inning, Lauren Creamer (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) and Bush both came up with RBI singles for an 8-5 game.

Unfortunately, Gettysburg added two runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it 10-5 and Bridget Rafter (Highlands, N.J./Henry Hudson Regional) grounded into a game-ending double play.

Susquehanna returns to action on Wednesday, April 23 with a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Lebanon Valley.
