WASHINGTON, D.C. – Freshman Nick Citron (Chatham, N.J. / Chatham) scored the game-winning goal in overtime, lifting SU men's lacrosse to a thrilling 7-6 victory at Catholic on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, coupled with Scranton's 8-7 victory over Goucher, has given the Crusaders the No. 1 seed in the Landmark Conference playoffs. SU will host No. 4 seed Drew on Wednesday, April 30 at 4 p.m.

The victory was only the second in program history versus the Cardinals, as the Crusaders defeated CUA for the first time ever last season, 7-4.

SU (9-7, 5-1 Landmark) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period. Nick Reardon (West Deptford, N.J. / West Deptford) tallied an unassisted goal at 11:48 and senior Austen Lein (New Vernon, N.J. / Madison) scored a man-down goal with 4:38 to play.

Despite letting the Cardinals (7-7) get on the board in the second period, the Crusaders took a 4-2 lead at intermission thanks to goals by Jake Calder (Lutherville, Md. / Dulaney) and Adam Fox (Brookfield, Conn. / Brookfield), with Fox's goal occurring with only six seconds remaining in the first half.

Catholic would tie the game at 4-4 in the third quarter, but Reardon scored his second of the day with 3:08 to go to hand the lead back to SU. But the Cardinals knotted the contest once more at 5-5 as the game headed to the final period.

In the fourth, the Cardinals found the back of the net only 39 seconds into the period to take their first lead of the day, 6-5. But SU responded with an unassisted goal by Reardon, his third of the day, to tie the game at 6-6.

The contest headed to overtime and after a clear by the SU defense, Citron ripped in the game-winner with an assist from Ryan Buckley (Stony Brook, N.Y. / Ward Melville).

Reardon scored a team-high three goals on three shots. Citron, Lein and Calder all attempted seven shots apiece.

Goalkeeper Jared Knowlton (North Salem, N.Y. / Kent School) made 15 saves in net, facing 21 shots, while playing the entire game. Senior Peter Donley (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Pittsburgh Central Catholic) recorded a team-high six ground balls.

SU now hosts Drew in the Landmark Conference Semifinals on Wednesday, April 30 at 4 p.m.
