TOWSON, Md. – The 2014 regular season came to a close for
the Susquehanna women's lacrosse team with a 20-3 win at
Goucher on Saturday afternoon. The Crusaders have clinched the No.
2 seed in the upcoming Landmark Conference Tournament and will host
Drew in a semifinal matchup on Wednesday, April 30 at 7 p.m.
SU (10-4, 5-1) has now earned a top-two seed in the Landmark
Tournament for the third-consecutive season.
The Crusaders used a 12-goal first half to help come away with the
20-13 victory. Emma Ehler (Chatham, N.J./Chatham)
and Brynn Reid (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove)
combined for 12 goals with Ehler scoring seven. Michelle
McGinniss (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) added three goals,
three assists and 12 draw control wins while Kelcie Ehler
(Chatham, N.J./Chatham) netted three goals to go along
with one assist.
Goalie Alyssa Rothman (Trooper, Pa./Methacton)
played all but the final 5:47 of the game and finished with four
saves.
The Crusaders held an edge over Goucher (7-9, 2-4) in nearly every
category as they out-shot the Gophers 40-19, won 24 of 35 draw
controls and committed only 10 turnovers to Goucher's 14.
The team traded goals to open the game with the score tied at five
after an unassisted score from McGinniss with 14:55 remaining in
the half. SU proceeded to out-score Goucher 7-1 over the remainder
of the half, including a stretch of six unanswered goals, to go
into halftime holding a 12-6 advantage.
The Gophers scored two of the first three goals of the second half
to cut SU's lead to five (13-8) but the Crusaders led by
seven (17-10) after a McGinniss goal with 19:30 to play.
SU's defense ensured that Goucher pulled no closer than five
goals over the remainder of the game and Susquehanna went on to the
20-13 victory.
