SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The No. 1 seed Susquehanna men's
lacrosse team is headed back to the Landmark Conference
championship game after defeating Drew 9-4 in Wednesday
afternoon's semifinal matchup. This marks the second-straight
title game appearance for the Crusaders.
Susquehanna will host No. 3 seed Goucher on Saturday at 5 p.m.
SU (10-7) held the Rangers (5-10) scoreless for two of the four
quarters while more than doubling up Drew in shots, 45-21.
Pat Brogan (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield),
Nick Citron (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and
Austen Lein (New Vernon, N.J./Madison) all
finished with two goals and one assist. Crusader goalie
Jared Knowlton (North Salem, N.Y./Kent School)
made six saves in his 60 minutes of work.
The game was tied at one after seven minutes of action before the
Crusaders went on a run of four unanswered goals that stretched
into the second and third quarters. Citron's goal with 3:17
left in the second quarter put his team ahead 4-1 at the midway
point of the game.
Conor Boyland (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris
Central) scored SU's fourth-straight goal with 11:45
left in the third quarter for a 5-1 game. Drew did score three of
the final four goals of the third quarter to trim the
Crusaders' lead to two, 6-4, heading into the final 15
minutes of play.
SU's defense blanked Drew for those final 15 minutes,
though, while adding three goals of its own from three different
players. J.B. Montane (Reisterstown, Md./Loyola)
struck with 8:55 to play to make it 9-4 and that remained the final
score as Drew was shut out.
