ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Susquehanna softball completed its second Landmark Conference doubleheader sweep in as many days, defeating Elizabethtown 6-5 and 9-2 on Sunday.

The doubleheader marked the first conference games between the two teams as Elizabethtown joined the Landmark Conference this spring.

SU (11-9, 6-0) remains perfect in Landmark play and has now won four-straight games.

The Crusaders held off a late rally by Elizabethtown to take game one 6-5. Morgan Lewis (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) got the start and pitched the first 6.2 innings before giving way to Jamie Fesinstine (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central). Lewis gave up five runs – just two of which were earned – on eight hits while striking out nine. Fesinstine got the final out of the inning to thwart the Blue Jays' comeback and pick up a save, her second of the season.

At the plate, Amanda Neveroski (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) went 2-for-4 from the leadoff spot with one run scored and one RBI. Catcher Brittany Devlin (Furlong, Pa./Central Bucks East) picked up two hits and scored three of SU's six runs while Lauren Creamer (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) drove in two run on one hit and scored two more.

Susquehanna plated one run in the first and two in the second with both second-inning runs scoring on a Creamer two-run homer to left field. A fielding error in the fourth allowed SU's fourth run of the game to score.

Two innings later, Devlin's solo shot to left field upped the Crusaders' lead to five (5-0) and Neveroski came through with a two-out, RBI single to send home Creamer, who had reached base on a Blue Jays fielding error.

All six of those runs proved critical as Elizabethtown put three runs on the board in its half of the sixth inning. An error and wild pitch contributed to two of those three runs before Lewis got out of the inning by getting Breanne Bentz to pop up to short.

The Blue Jays retired SU in order in the seventh and they continued to chip away at Susquehanna's lead. Payton Marunich's one-out RBI double trimmed the Crusaders' lead to two (6-4).

After giving up another hit, Lewis gave way to Fesinstine but another fielding error by Susquehanna allowed the second run of the inning to score and SU found itself leading by just one (6-5). Fortunately Fesinstine got Jordan Nowacki to pop up to second base to end Elizabethtown's rally.

Game two was tied 2-2 after six innings until the Crusaders broke out for seven runs in the seventh inning en route to the eventual 9-2 victory.

Fesinstine went the distance, surrendering just two runs with two strikeouts and no walks. Neveroski added three more hits and Bridget Rafter (Highlands, N.J./Henry Hudson Regional) went 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Sarah Bush (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor Plainsboro North) scored the game's first run on a second-inning RBI single off the bat of Devlin. The Crusaders added another run in the fifth when Rafter's single to right center scored Neveroski, who had reached base on a single.

The Blue Jays got both runs back, though, in their half of the fifth, tying the game at two, which remained the score heading into the top of the seventh.

In that seventh inning SU broke out for seven runs on seven hits and two Elizabethtown errors. Neveroski drove home two of those runs with a single to center and Rafter's single to left allowed Stephanie Chlebove (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) to score the seventh and final run of the inning for a seven-run Susquehanna lead (9-2).

The Blue Jays threatened in the seventh, though, loading the bases against Fesinstine before the freshman got Kelsey Brown to foul out to first base for the final out of the game.

The Crusaders are back in action on April 9 with a doubleheader at Lycoming beginning at 3 p.m.
