SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Senior midfielder Emma Ehler
(Chatham, N.J. / Chatham) tallied four goals as
Susquehanna women's lacrosse held off Dickinson 16-14 in
mid-week action on Wednesday night.
Ehler scored a team-high four tallies on a game-best 10 shots
and also recorded 10 draw control wins. Becky McHugh
(Royersford, Pa. / Archbishop John Carroll) and
Meredith Crane (Maplewood, N.J. / Columbia) each
recorded hat tricks while Michelle McGinniss (Randolph,
N.J. / Randolph) and Brynn Reid (West Grove, Pa. /
Avon Grove) both had two goals and two assists.
Goalkeeper Alyssa Rothman (Trooper, Pa. /
Methacton) earned her sixth win of the year as the
sophomore netminder made 12 saves on 26 shots. The win is the
third-straight for SU over Dickinson, improving to 8-6 since
1996.
The Crusaders (7-3) scored less than a minute into the game as
Crane took a feed from McHugh at 29:37, but Dickinson responded
with three quick scores to grab a 3-1 lead at 22:53.
However, SU answered right back with four-straight goals, all
occurring within a two-minute span, to retake the lead 5-3.
McGinniss registered a pair of scores during this stretch.
The Red Devils (7-5) notched two more scores to knot the contest
at 5-5 with 16:19 remaining in the first half. But again, SU tacked
on four goals in three minutes to regain the lead, 9-5.
Emma Ehler scored twice towards the end of the period to give
the Crusaders an 11-6 edge before Dickinson cut the lead down to
four (11-7), which remained the score at halftime.
Dickinson scored a little over a minute into the second half to
get within three (11-8) and eventually trimmed the SU lead down to
two (12-10) with 24:09 to go.
Emma Ehler, Crane and McHugh all scored the next goals for
Susquehanna to give the Crusaders a 15-10 edge. Despite
surrendering three goals in the last 12 minutes of action, SU held
on for the non-conference win.
SU hosts league foe Catholic in a rematch of last year's
Landmark Conference Championship on Saturday at 1 p.m.
