EWING, N.J. – The Susquehanna women's lacrosse team fell behind early to No. 4 The College of New Jersey and could not mount a comeback, ultimately falling 19-7 in the second round of the NCAA Division III women's lacrosse tournament.

This marked the second-straight year the Crusaders earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament and the third consecutive year of double-digit wins for the program.

Senior Michelle McGinniss (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) accounted for four of SU's seven goals with three other players accounting for the remaining three scores. Emma Ehler (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) had a team-high four assists and four draw controls.

Goalie Alyssa Rothman (Trooper, Pa./Methacton) got the start and played the first 13:05 before giving way to Abby Cohn (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville). Cohn finished with eight saves.

Lions' goalie Kelly Schlupp was forced to make just one save all afternoon. TCNJ (18-1) had just five turnovers in the game while forcing 16 by the Crusaders (12-6). The Lions also had 31 shots to SU's nine although Susquehanna was 2-for-2 on free-position shots.

TCNJ jumped out to an 8-0 lead after less than seven minutes of play before McGinniss netted her team's first goal of the game for an 8-1 game with 19:51 left to play in the half.

TCNJ proceeded to go up 13-1 with nearly nine minutes still remaining in the half. However, less than two minutes later Annie McElaney (Natick, Mass./Natick) scored on a free position shot to spark a 4-0 SU run that made it 13-5 at halftime.

The Lions scored the first four goals of the second half, though, for a 17-5 advantage before back-to-back goals by McGinniss and Becky McHugh (Royersford, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) kept it a 10-goal game (17-7).

Unfortunately, TCNJ scored the next two goals to make it 19-7 and kept the Crusaders off the board for the remaining 17:53 of the game to seal the win.

The game started 75 minutes later than the initial 3 p.m. start due to storms in the area prior to the start of the game.
