Box Score SELINSGROVE, Pa. – A four-goal first half propelled the Susquehanna field hockey squad to a 4-0 season-opening victory against Albright in the opening game of the Third-Annual Connie Harnum Classic.
The Crusaders will now face Kean in Saturday's 3:30 championship game. Kean defeated St. John Fisher 5-4 in overtime in Friday's second game.
Katherine Millett (Auburn, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy) and Emily Novakovich (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook) scored two goals apiece to pace the Crusaders (1-0). As a team, SU out-shot the Lions (0-1) by a 26-1 margin. Albright did not record a shot until 10 minutes into the second half.
Novakovich scored the first two goals of the game over a less than four-minute span to put the Crusaders ahead 2-0 less than nine minutes into the game.
Five minutes later, Millett scored her first goal of the game, an unassisted goal, to make it 3-0. With just over two minutes remaining in the half, Millett scored off an assist from Brodie Ercole (Oakmont, Pa./Lewisburg Area) for a 4-0 edge at halftime.
While Susquehanna went without a goal in the second half, the Crusaders did out-shoot Albright 10-1 over the final 35 minutes of action to easily fend off any threat of a Lions comeback.
