Outburst Propels Field Hockey Past Marywood 6-0

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Susquehanna field hockey team scored early and often on Wednesday night, routing the visiting Marywood Pacers 6-0 for the team's fourth consecutive win.

Cayla Spatz (Sinking Spring, Pa./Berks Catholic) and Katherine Millett (Auburn, Maine / North Yarmouth Academy) finished with two goals apiece while Brodie Ercole (Oakmont, Pa./Lewisburg Area) and Lauren Cram (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) both added two assists.

The Crusaders were in control for the entire game, facing only three shots on goal while recording 14 of their own. Alyssa Rothman (Trooper, Pa./Methacton) and Morgan Ludlam (Middletown, Del./Appoquinimink) combined for the shutout with Rothman picking up the win as the goalie of record.

SU continued its habit of jumping ahead early as Emily Novakovich (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook) found the back of the net just over two minutes into the game for her sixth goal of the season. Novakovich beat the keeper high as she redirected a pass from Cram into the top of the net.

Susquehanna would score three more times in the half, next at 18:08 when Millett and Ercole combined for Millett's seventh goal of the season, which is third-best in the Landmark Conference. With five points in the game and 17 total, she is currently third in the Landmark for points as well.

Spatz and Meghan Plunkett (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon), who both recently recorded their first collegiate goals, scored against Marywood in the 27th and 34th minutes, respectively. Spatz, a freshman, added her second tally just one tick before the end of the second half and now has four goals in the past three games.

In the second half, the Crusaders added to their lead with another quick goal from Millett assisted by Ercole and Megan McClellan (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley)

The team will put its streak on the line when it travels to SUNY Oneonta on Saturday, Sept. 20 for a 1:00 p.m. game.
