Friday Night Shutout for Women's Soccer

Box Score

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's soccer team picked up its second shutout of the season in the form a 3-0 victory against visiting Penn State Altoona in a rare Friday night contest.

SU (2-5-1) dominated from start to finish, tripling up the Nittany Lions (1-6-0) in shots, 31-10, with 15 of those 31 shots on goal.

Three different players scored for the Crusaders with Grayclyn Juckes (Bloomsburg, Pa./Saucon Valley) adding one goal and two assists for a four-point night. Haley Bingaman (Northumberland, Pa./Shikellamy) and Samantha Zuponcic (Mantua, Ohio/Crestwood/Hiram) accounted for the other two goals.

Susquehanna had more than its share of scoring opportunities from the start with 13 shots over the first 35 minutes of the game. The 14th shot by the Crusaders came in the form of a Bingaman goal who tapped a Juckes pass into the open net.

It took SU just over three minutes of play in the second half to pad that lead when Juckes had a breakaway for her first score of the night. A mere four minutes later, Zuponcic continued the scoring streak for Susquehanna for a 3-0 Crusader cushion.

The Nittany Lions kept pushing, though, taking seven shots over the remainder of the game. Fortunately SU goalie Jennifer Thorsheim (Manalapan, N.J./Freehold Township) came up with saves on five of those shots to help preserve the shutout.

The Crusaders return to the field on Sept. 24 with a 7 p.m. game at Wilkes.
