Box Score WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Freshman Grayclynn Juckes (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) continued her recent hot streak to help lead the Susquehanna women's soccer team (3-5-1) to a 2-1, overtime win at Wilkes (5-4) on Wednesday evening.
Juckes, who registered a goal and an assist, now has 10 points off of three goals and four assists in the last three games. Joining her on the scoresheet was a familiar name in Samantha Zuponcic (Mantua, Ohio/Crestwood/Hiram), who scored in her third straight game and leads the team with six goals and 13 points on the season.
The Crusaders fell behind early, surrendering a goal to Wilkes' Katie Hughes in the eighth minute, but the defense and keeper Jennifer Thorsheim (Manalapan, N.J./Freehold Township) would not be beaten again. Thorsheim made seven saves in the winning effort, including four in the first half.
SU equalized in the 21st minute when Juckes won a breakaway and slotted the ball into an open net after beating keeper Lisa Semetti one-on-one.
With the game tied at one apiece, Wilkes regained control, recording 10 shots to Susquehanna's two in the second half, but came up empty-handed despite the advantage and a 5-1 margin in corners. SU had the last chances of the half, but shots by Chloe Eisenhuth (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) and Rachel Moyer (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) in the 90th minute were off-target to send the game into overtime.
The extra period was barely underway when SU ended the game with a golden goal from Zuponcic, who received the ball from Juckes on a give-and-go and beat Semetti on the right side.
The team has already eclipsed last year's total of 10 goals scored with 11 this season, including seven in the last three games.
The two-game win streak will be on the line when SU hosts Scranton on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 3:30 p.m.
