Box Score SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna field hockey team dropped another close contest on Saturday, losing to nonconference opponent Dickinson 4-3 at Sassafras Field. Goalkeeper Alyssa Rothman (Trooper, Pa. / Methacton ) had a career day between the pipes as she posted 10 saves, including seven in the first half.
The Crusaders (1-3) raced to an early lead in the opening minute behind a goal from Katherine Millett (Auburn, Maine / North Yarmouth Academy), who tapped a pass from Emily Novakovich (Saratoga, Calif. / Lynbrook) into an open net.
Millett returned the favor soon after to put SU ahead 2-0, setting up Novakovich for her fourth goal in as many games this season.
Dickinson (3-1), who held a 23-6 advantage in shots and a 10-2 lead in penalty corners for the match, had opportunities to narrow the gap in the first, but key stops from Rothman kept the Red Devils scoreless.
They finally broke through, though, with two goals in quick succession as Alyssa Stillwell and Amber Dey found the back of the net shortly before half.
After the break, the Crusaders retook the lead with Millett's second goal of the afternoon, but neither team could hold the lead for long in the back-and-forth game. Dickinson equalized with Stillwell's second goal of the day ten minutes later and pulled ahead for good.
Susquehanna will travel to Elmira for its next game on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 4:30 p.m.
