Box Score SELINSGROVE, Pa. – A 44-point second half helped guide the Susquehanna women's basketball team to a 67-51win over visiting Juniata College.
Nikki Komara (Shamokin, Pa./Lourdes) and Jonaida Williams (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Twp.) combined for 39 of the team's 67 points with Komara scoring 17 and Williams finishing with a game-high 22, 12 of which were from beyond the arc.
Komara also had a game-best 10 rebounds and eight assists. Komara's 10 boards helped the Crusaders edge Juniata in total rebounds, 50-41.
SU opened the game with five unanswered points before the Eagles went on a 9-3 run to go ahead 9-8. Juniata remained in the lead 18-13 after a Brianna Wasser layup at the 7:15 mark of the half. Williams' layup two minutes later pulled Susquehanna within four (21-17).
Courtney Adams (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton West) sank a layup with 2:15 to play and her two free throws 35 seconds later trimmed the Eagles' lead to three (26-23). Juniata's Katy Leamer scored the final points of the half, though, to give her team a 28-23 lead at halftime.
The second half was a different story as the Crusaders out-scored Juniata 44-23. Five consecutive points from Williams over a 65-second span tied the game at 30 before the lead swung back in the Eagles' favor on a Maria Photiades layup with 16:50 to play.
Komara countered with a layup to give the Crusaders a 35-34 advantage, one they would not relinquish. A trey from Williams at the 11:04 mark put SU ahead by double digits (47-36) for the first time all evening.
It stood 50-38 in favor of SU before Juniata a 7-0 run by the Eagles cut Susquehanna's lead to five (50-45) with 6:30 remaining. Sofia Schedler (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) gave the Crusaders some breathing room with a clutch three at the 3:15 mark for a 57-49 game. Schedler followed that bucket with back-to-back layups for a 61-49 SU lead with two minutes remaining.
A layup from Williams, combined with two Megan McFadden (Greenbrook, N.J./Watchung Hills) free throws, over the final 46 seconds sealed the game for SU.
Susquehanna remains at home to host Drew on Saturday at 2 p.m.
