LANCASTER, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's swimming and diving team faced its first setback of 2015 with a 117-145 loss to non-conference opponent Franklin & Marshall on Saturday afternoon.
The team got off to a strong start as the foursome of Annie Bruxelles (Hockessin, Del./Sanford School), Joann Butkus (Barnesville,Pa./Tamaqua Area), Ashlee Weingarten (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) and Jessica Jozefiak (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) combined for a victory in the 200 medley relay (1:51.90).
In the 1000 free, Caroline Henderson (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) finished fourth in 11:31.68 and Dana Linsky (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) achieved a PR of 11:45.29, beating her previous best by over 12 seconds.
Lexi Cole (Danville, Pa./Danville) earned second place in the 200 free (1:59.61) and 500 free (5:22.23) to go with her victory in the 100 free, which was achieved with a personal-best time of 55.71.
Bruxelles claimed the 100 back in 1:01.85 and earned another individual victory in the 200 back with her time of 2:13.18.
In the 100 breast, Butkus won the event in 1:10.04, while Kelsey Lessard (Chestertown, Md./Queen Anne's County) picked up a third-place result in the 200 fly (2:18.20). Lessard was also the top finisher for SU in the 200 IM with her 2:22.37 mark.
Butkus also finished in second in the 200 breast (2:37.43), just ahead of third-place finisher Alex Bornman (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley), who touched the wall in 2:38.02
Weingarten was an individual winner in the 100 fly (1:02.18) and the Crusaders bookended their afternoon with a victory in the 400 free relay. The team of Butkus, Cole, Jozefiak and Kyle Seaman (Moreland Hills, Ohio/Orange) finished in 3:45.24
The next competes against Division II Bloomsburg on Friday, Jan. 23 at 6 p.m and follows up with home met against Albright on Saturday, Jan. 24.
