Box Score ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's basketball team could not rally against Landmark Conference foe Elizabethtown, falling 54-45 on the road.
The loss snapped the Crusaders' four-game win streak and marked just the second league loss of the season for SU (13-4, 7-2).
Susquehanna went to the line just twice all game and was edged 43-32 in rebounds. The Crusaders also had zero second chance points all afternoon.
Sophomore Nikki Komara (Shamokin, Pa./Lourdes Regional) led the team with her 12 points and 12 rebounds. She also added five assists and four steals. Jonaida Williams (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Twp.) scored 10 points to go along with three rebounds and two steals and Angie Schedler (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) finished with 10 points off the bench.
The Blue Jays (12-4, 6-4) opened the game with four unanswered points before a Komara layup with 16:43 on the clock made it 6-4. Just over two minutes later, Williams sank a jumper that gave SU its first lead of the game, 9-8.
With 13 minutes to play, Andreana MacIvor's (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) jumper tied the game at 13. Elizabethtown pulled ahead on its next possession and with five minutes remaining in the half, held a 23-19 edge. Nicole Gault (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) tied the game at 23 on a layup at the 2:17 mark but the Blue Jays scored the final four points of the period to go into halftime with a 27-23 advantage.
Elizabethtown opened the second half on a 12-2 to pull ahead by 14 (39-25) after five minutes of play. SU found itself still trailing by double digits (43-33) at the midway point of the period.
Schedler's three with 9:30 on the clock closed the gap to seven (43-36) but nearly four minutes passed without a point for either team.
Williams' jumper just inside the five-minute mark kept it a seven-point game, 45-38, and Schedler drained a clutch three with 3:08 on the clock to pull the Crusaders within four (45-41).
With 1:10 to play, two Emily Martin free throws put Elizabethtown ahead 48-41 and put SU into a situation in which it had to foul down the stretch. Unfortunately, the Blue Jays sank four free throws over the final 39 seconds to go on to the 54-45 victory.
Susquehanna remains on the road face Catholic on Wednesday, Jan. 28. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
