SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Despite swimming in its second meet in as many days, the Susquehanna women's swimming and diving team defeated non-conference opponent Albright handily on Saturday afternoon, beating the Lions by a score of 169-87.
Lexi Cole (Danville, Pa./Danville), Alex Bornman (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley), Annie Bruxelles (Hockessin, Del./Sanford School) and Jessica Jozefiak (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) each picked up a pair of individual victories to lead the Crusaders to victory.
Ashlee Weingarten (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) also claimed an individual win with her performance in the 100 fly, finishing with a time of 1:02.35. Following closely behind were Avanti Banks (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) in 1:03.56 and Lizzie Richart (Wyncote, Pa./Cheltenham) in 1:07.36.
Susquehanna swept the top three spots in seven of the 12 non-exhibition events contested.
Cole finished first in the 200 free (1:58.20) and 500 free (5:23.46) while Bornman won both the 100 breast (1:09.47) and 200 breast (2:36.20) events.
Bruxelles was the top finisher in the 100 back (1:01.87) and 200 back (2:13.97) and was part of the 200 medley relay team along with Jozefiak, Weingarten and Joann Butkus (Barnesville,Pa./Tamaqua Area) that won the even by nearly six seconds with a time of 1:52.77.
One day after setting a new PR in the 50 free, Jozefiak had another personal best in the event (25.81) and added another personal record in the 100 free (56.16) for good measure.
Caroline Henderson (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) was the top finisher for SU at third in the 1000 free (11:28.53) and also placed second in the 500 free (5:37.95). Joann Butkus (Barnesville,Pa./Tamaqua Area) added a pair of second-place finishes in the 100 breast (1:10.65) and 100 free (56.83).
Kelsey Lessard (Chestertown, Md./Queen Anne's County) also earned points for the Crusaders with her second-place finish in the 200 fly (2:03.77).
Susquehanna competes in its final dual meet of the season when it hosts Landmark opponent Scranton on Saturday, Jan. 31, which will also serve as Senior Day. The meet is scheduled for 2 p.m.
