Box Score BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The sixth-straight win for the Susquehanna women's basketball team came in the form of an 82-62 victory at Landmark Conference opponent Moravian on Saturday afternoon. Not only did SU (9-2, 3-0) extend its win streak on Saturday, the Crusaders also improved to 3-0 in Landmark Conference action.
The 3-0 start to league play is Susquehanna's best since joining the Landmark in 2007-08 while the six-game win streak is the best since a six-game undefeated stretch in 2008-09. In addition, the Crusader win snapped the Greyhounds' (5-6, 1-2) six-game home win streak against the Crusaders.
The game was knotted at five after less than two minutes of play before two Jonaida Williams (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Twp.) free throws handed Susquehanna 7-5 advantage at the 17:35 mark of the half. Less than 30 seconds later, Williams drained a three for a 10-5 game.
Sofia Schedler's (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) three with 13:37 on the clock extended SU's lead to eight (18-10) and two Nicole Gault (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) free throws less than three minutes later gave Susquehanna its first double-digit lead of the afternoon (22-12).
The Greyhounds rallied, though, making it a mere one-point contest (24-23) on a Trista Cunningham three-point play with 8:25 to play. They went ahead 27-26 on two Samantha Caliguiri free throws just 90 seconds later before a Nikki Komara (Shamokin, Pa./Lourdes) jumper handed a 28-27 advantage back to the Crusaders.
That bucket was followed by a 14-2 Susquehanna run that made it 42-29 with less than one minute to play in the half. The Crusaders would eventually go into halftime holding a 44-33 lead.
Moravian scored the first four points of the second half and again found itself holding a one-point edge, 49-48, after an Alexis Wright layup at the 15:10 mark of the period.
Courtney Adams (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton West) followed with a layup of her own exactly 50 seconds later to make it 50-49 and ultimately hand the lead back to SU for good.
The Crusader defense limited the Greyhounds to just four points over the next five minutes while extending their lead to 12 (65-53) just after the midway point of the half.
Schedler's free throws with 2:44 on the clock put SU ahead by a game high 18 points (78-60) and SU went on to the 82-64 victory.
Williams led all scorers with 25 points in 37 minutes of action. Komara had 19 to go along with a game-best 16 boards and six assists. Adams has 10 points and four rebounds while Lexi Biggs-Garcia (McLean, Va./Langley) had six points and 11 rebounds, four of the offensive variety.
As a team, SU had 21 second chance points to the Greyhounds' seven and edged Moravian in fast break points, 12-4.
