No. 7 Royals Snap Women's Win Streak

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's basketball team saw its six-game win streak come to an abrupt end with a 77-38 loss at No. 7 University of Scranton on Thursday night.

The Crusaders (9-3, 3-1) were limited to just 13 second-half points and a 30 percent shooting effort from the floor for the game.

Courtney Adams (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton West) was the team's leading scorer with nine points off the bench. Jonaida Williams (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Twp.) finished with six points and three rebounds while Sofia Schedler (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) added five points and three boards of her own.

The Royals (13-1, 5-0) had 49 rebounds to SU's 25 and finished with 40 points in the paint. Noelle Alicea and Meredith Mesarsis tied for the game high in points with 14.

The teams traded buckets in the opening 90 seconds for a 2-2 ballgame before Scranton went on a 10-0 run to grab a 12-2 edge five minutes into the game. It remained a 10-point game (20-10) following Williams' three-pointer at the 10:19 mark of the half.

Adams' three-point play less than three minutes later kept the Crusaders within 10, 24-14. However, by the two minute mark of the period, Scranton had built a 14-point advantage (35-21) and went into halftime leading 40-25.

After five minutes of play in the second half, Susquehanna trailed by 18 (46-28) and the team proceeded to play the next 10 minutes without scoring a point. During that time, the Royals scored 27 unanswered points to go ahead 73-28 with just five minutes remaining to put the game away.

The Crusaders remain on the road to face USMMA on Saturday at 2 p.m.
