Box Score SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna field hockey team won its third straight game, defeating the Blue Jays of Elizabethtown College in their breast cancer awareness Play4theCure game.
The Crusaders (9-3, 2-1) – who handed the Blue Jays their first conference loss of the season – jumped on the board in the first half at the 24:32 mark with a goal from Katherine Millett with an assist from Taylor Secor on a penalty corner giving SU the lead 1-0. This remained the score through halftime.
Twelve minutes into the second half, Elizabethtown (6-5, 2-1) answered with a goal of its own to knot the game at one. However, three minutes later SU took the lead with a goal from Taylor Franco assisted by Tessa Woodring making it 2-1 in the Crusaders favor. At 63:22, Lauren Cram brought the score to 3-1 with an unassisted goal to the left of the goalie. The Blue Jays scored another goal three minutes later but it was not enough and the Crusaders held on to win 3-2.
"This was a great win for our team," head coach Kaitlyn Wahila said. "It was a great team performance and we stayed confident even when Elizabethtown tied it at one and were able to come back and score. We came ready to play."
The Crusaders totaled 10 shots to the Blue Jays' 20 with Emily Novakovich leading the team with four. Millett followed with two and four other players took one each. Goalie Alyssa Rothman faced 14 shots on goal and made 12 saves to earn the win.
Susquehanna returns to action on Wednesday Oct. 14 at Juniata. The game starts at 7:00 PM.
