Box Score SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna field hockey team dropped a close one to nationally-ranked Catholic University on Senior Day.
Seven Susquehanna seniors were recognized prior to the start of the game: Taylor Secor, Emily Reich, Taylor Snavely, Erin Bonafede, Alison Caulfield, Katherine Millett and Alyssa Rothman
SU (10-5, 3-3) out-shot the No. 17 Cardinals (11-4, 5-1) 17 to 14 and totaled 14 penalty corners to Catholic's nine but it was not enough as the team lost 3-2.
Catholic scored first at the 12:53 mark to go up 1-0 but the Crusaders tied the game with a goal of their own five minutes later when Cayla Spatz redirected a pass from Lauren Cram.
Susquehanna took the lead with a little over seven minutes to go in the first half when Taylor Franco scored on a rebounded shot taken by Tessa Woodring putting the Crusaders up 2-1. That remained the score until nearly 20 minutes into the second half when the Cardinals knotted the game at two on a penalty shot.
At the 62:39 mark, Catholic took the lead 3-2. SU took three back-to-back penalty corners at the end of the game and Millett took the last shot for the Crusaders to try and send the game into overtime but it was saved.
The Crusaders were led in shots by Millett who totaled five, two on goal. She was followed closely by Spatz who tallied four shots with three on goal. Emily Novakovich ended the game with three shots, two of which were on goal.
Goalie Rothman (9-5) ended the game having faced nine shots on goal and saved six of them.
SU returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 31 when the end the regular season at Goucher. The game starts at 1:00 p.m.
