Box Score MADISON, N.J. – The Susquehanna field hockey team picked up its first Landmark Conference win of the fall with a 3-1 victory at Drew.
The Crusaders' Cayla Spatz (Sinking Spring, Pa./Berks Catholic) scored a mere 41 seconds into the game and SU (8-3, 1-1) never looked back. Spatz finished with two goals, both in the first half.
Susquehanna racked up 22 shots to Drew's seven and had nine penalty corners while limiting the Rangers to four. Eight different players took at least one shot for the Crusaders with six players recording at least two shots.
Drew put four shots on goal and SU goalie Alyssa Rothman (Trooper, Pa./Methacton) finished with three saves, all in the second half.
Spatz scored at the 41-second mark of the first off an assist from Katherine Millett (Auburn, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy) for the quick, 1-0 Crusader lead. Almost exactly six minutes later, Spatz scored again, this time an unassisted goal, for a 2-0 game.
Susquehanna's defense held Drew without a shot for the final 28 minutes of the opening period to keep it 2-0 at halftime.
Less than eight minutes into the second half, Taylor Franco (Sinking Spring, Pa./Conrad Weiser) scored her second goal of the season when she knocked in her own rebound to make it 3-0.
The Rangers broke up the shutout with a goal in the 63rd minute but Drew was held without a shot for the remainder of the game.
Susquehanna returns home to host Elizabethtown on Oct. 10 at 1 p.m.
