Box Score SCRANTON, Pa. - The Susquehanna women's basketball team is heading into its holiday break riding a three-game win streak thanks to Friday night's 74-69 victory at Marywood University.
The Crusaders held a significant lead for the first half of the game before the Pacers (4-4) mounted a second-half comeback. SU was able to fend off that attempted comeback, though, to improve to 7-2 on the season.
SU opened the contest with five unanswered points with buckets from Angie Schedler and Courtney Adams. Angie Schedler's second three of the game made it 8-2 after less than two minutes of play.
Marywood trimmed it a two-point game (10-8) but Holly Crossin's three with 35 seconds on the clock made it 17-11 and the quarter ended with SU ahead 17-13.
The Crusaders opened the second period on a 6-2 run to go up 23-15 and Adams' jumper with 2:16 to play stretched Susquehanna's lead to double digits (30-20). The lead remained 10 points (32-22) at halftime.
The Pacers scored 11 of the first 15 points of the third quarter to pull within five (36-31) just 2:25 into the quarter. Marywood trailed by three (39-36) at the 5:46 mark before tying the game at 41 on Kylie Devlin's three with 4:30 on the clock.
The game remained tied at 43 just 45 seconds later before Nikki Komara's layup put Susquehanna back in the lead, 45-43. Komara's three just inside the three-minute mark gave SU a seven-point cushion (50-43) but by the time the quarter came to a close, Marywood had pulled back within three (52-49).
Angie Schedler's three 35 seconds into the final quarter made it 57-49 but Davis brought Marywood within two (61-59) on a layup with 5:44 still to play.
The Pacers' Lisa Steakin knotted the game at 62 on a three-pointer and Devlin followed with a trey of her own at the 4:50 mark to put Marywood ahead 65-62.
Angie Schedler briefly gave SU a lead (67-65) on a three before Marywood tied it again at 67. Angie Schedler responded with another three for 70-67 Crusaders advantage with 2:39 remaining.
At the one-minute mark, Adams kept Susquehanna ahead on a jumper that made it 72-69. With less than 40 seconds remaining and still down by three, the Pacers were forced to foul. Angie Schedler made one of two free throws and an Alexa Gerchman turnover with 18 seconds left effectively ended the game in favor of the Crusaders.
Adams led all players with 24 points to go along with nine rebounds. Angie Schedler was just behind with 23 points – 18 of which came from three-point range. Komara finished with 14 points, nine rebounds, eight assists and two steals.
Susquehanna shot better than 43 percent from the field and had 14 second-chance points to Marywood's six.
The Crusaders return to the court on Dec. 30 when they host Franklin & Marshall at 7 p.m. There will be no admission charge for the game.
