Box Score MADISON, N.J. – The Susquehanna women's basketball team never held a lead in its road game against Landmark Conference opponent Drew and fell to the Rangers 67-59.
The Crusaders (16-7, 9-5) will the split the season series with the Rangers (12-12, 6-9) and fall into a tie for third place in the Landmark Conference. The loss marks the first time this season SU has lost three-straight contests.
Sofia Schedler (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) lead the way for the lady Crusaders with a 8-of-16 performance from the field that resulted in a game-high 21 points. Drew out-rebounded SU on the defensive glass with a 34 to 24 margin. The Rangers also forced Susquehanna to turn the ball over 21 times throughout the game.
Nicole Gault (Medford, N.J. / Shawnee) sank a layup five minutes into the action to tie the game at six. However, Drew went on a six-point run that helped them pull away from SU. A Jonaida Williams (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Twp.) three pointer with 9:35 left in the first period brought the Crusaders within three points of the home side.
Eighteen minutes into the first half the Rangers established their first double-digit lead of the contest at 22-11. The Crusaders closed the gap to a single digit margin with a two point jump shot from Sofia Shedler just before the intermission.
The Crusaders allowed Drew to open the half on a 10-0 run to lead 36-15 after five minutes of play in the second half. Over the remaining 15 minutes, SU attempted to erase the double-digit deficit. Sofia Shedler's standout performance continued with a clutch jump shot that closed the gap to eight with 1:06 to play in the game.
The Rangers iced the game from the free throw line going 5-of-6 from the charity stripe in the last minute of the game.
SU returns to action with a pivotal Landmark Conference game on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Goucher.
