Box Score SCRANTON, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's basketball team took on No. 14 Scranton in the team's first Landmark Conference tournament game since the 2009-10 season. Unfortunately, the Crusaders could not hang with the Royals, falling 92-49 on Wednesday night.
Senior Jonaida Williams ended her collegiate basketball career with a 15-point, seven-rebound performance. Nikki Komara tied for the game high with 10 rebounds to go along with four points and four assists.
Scranton (24-2) shot 54 percent for the game while the Royals defense held the Crusaders (17-9) to a 28.8 percent showing from the floor and forced 16 SU turnovers which translated into 24 points for Scranton.
The Royals jumped out to a 4-0 lead before SU went on a 5-0 run, capped off by a Megan McFadden three, to take a 5-4 advantage. Williams drained a three at the 16-minute mark for an 8-6 Crusader lead and McFadden's layup just 40 seconds later kept Susquehanna ahead 10-8.
Scranton tied it at 10 on its very next possession and never again trailed in the game. The Royals led by 10 (20-10) just inside the 12-minute mark but an Angie Schedler trey with 7:50 remaining brought the lead back to single digits (22-13).
Heather Zinn's three with five minutes to play made it a 26-18 game but Scranton out-scored SU 10-2 over the remainder of the half to take a 36-20 lead into halftime.
The Royals' lead grew to 26 (46-20) just two minutes into the second half and Susquehanna found itself in a 27-point hole (52-25) with 15 minutes still to play. Scranton went up by 42 (81-39) with just inside five minutes remaining and went on to the eventual 43-point margin of victory (92-49).
The Crusaders 17 victories are the most ever under head coach Jim Reed, now in his 10th season at the helm of the program. They are also the most wins since the 1998-99 squad went 17-10 and eventually advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
