Crusader Men Coast to Win over Moravian

Box Score

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Fans in attendance at Susquehanna's annual Pepsi Day could not have asked for a better show as the SU men defeated visiting Moravian 97-63.

Five players finished in double figures for the Crusaders (15-6, 8-4), who led from start to finish in the game.

Josh Miller (Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter Strasburg) poured in a game-high 21 points, 18 of which were of the three-point variety. Brandon Hedley (Silver Spring, Md./Salisbury Prep), who was honored prior to the start of the game for scoring his 1000th career point late last month, had 14 points and five assists.

Steven Weidlich (Watchung, N.J./Watchung Hills) added 12 points and a game-best seven assists while Matt McGugan (Silver Spring, Md./Blake) and Danny Weiss (Montville, N.J./Montville Twp.) finished with 10 points apiece with McGugan pulling down eight rebounds, tied for the team lead with Miller.

Susquehanna shot better than 47 percent from the field and sank nearly 44 percent of its three-point shots. The Crusaders also scored 24 points off 20 Greyhound turnovers and limited Moravian (4-17, 2-10) to just 26 first-half points.

After just over four minutes of play, the Crusaders already held a double-digit lead (16-5) courtesy of a Miller three. Moravian pulled within seven, 19-12, with 10:46 remaining but a 13-3 SU run upped the lead to 19 (34-15) at the seven-minute mark of the half.

It was a 28-point game following two Weidlich free throws with 2:21 on the clock and Susquehanna took a healthy, 27-point edge into halftime at 53-26.

The second half was much of the same as the entire Crusader bench saw playing time. SU took its first 30-point lead (56-26) on Hedley's three that opened the period. Miller's three with 13:33 remaining kept it a 30-point SU lead, 68-38, and Susquehanna took a game-high 34-point edge (84-50) on Weiss's layup at the seven-minute mark.

Phil Madison's (Johnstown, Pa./Great Johnstown) three at 2:27 made it 88-58 and the sophomore's layup 60 seconds later upped the lead back to 34 (92-58) as SU went on to win by that 34-point margin of victory, 97-63.

Susquehanna hits the road to face Scranton on Feb. 11 at 7 p.m.
