Comeback Not in the Cards for Women

Box Score

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's basketball team cut what had been a double-digit Moravian lead to just one with 9:12 to play, but SU was unable to complete the comeback, falling 83-77.

Freshman Angie Schedler (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams), making her second career start, scored a team-high 16 points while Courtney Adams (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton West) chipped in 15 off the bench and Nikki Komara (Shamokin, Pa./Lourdes Regional) finished with 13. Komara had two early fouls and was forced to sit the majority of the first half and played just 25 minutes in the game.

The Greyhounds shot 57 percent from three-point range while holding SU to a 25 percent showing from beyond the arc. Moravian (11-10, 7-5) also had 17 second-chance points to just eight by the Crusaders.

The teams traded buckets to open the game with SU going ahead 18-16 on a Lexi Biggs-Garcia (McLean, Va./Langley) jumper at the 11:55 mark. The Greyhounds tied it at 18 on their next possession and went ahead 20-18 on two Alesha Marks free throws with 9:34 to play. It was a lead they ultimately would not relinquish.

That two-point lead grew to seven (26-19) inside the eight-minute mark and Taylor Freeman's jumper with four minutes on the clock gave Moravian its first double-digit lead of the afternoon, 34-23.

By the time the half came to a close, SU found itself in a 16-point hole, 46-30, despite Schedler's last-second three to close out the half.

Susquehanna trailed by 14, 49-35, three minutes into the second half before the Crusaders pulled their way to within just one, 55-54, following Jonaida Williams' (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Twp.) trey at the 9:32 mark of the half.

Unfortunately, the Greyhounds scored 10 unanswered points to regain a double-digit lead, 65-54, with 7:15 remaining in the game.

Schedler's three with 2:43 on the clock made it a nine-point game, 77-68, and back-to-back buckets from Adams trimmed Moravian's lead to just six (80-74).

Unfortunately, with just one minute remaining, SU was left without enough time to complete the comeback.

Susquehanna remains at home to host Scranton on Feb. 11 at 7 p.m.

Postgame Notes: Saturday marked Play 4 Kay Day, an annual Breast Cancer Awareness game. It was also Susquehanna's annual Pepsi Day.
