SELINSGROVE, Pa. – An 11-goal first half helped propel the Susquehanna women's lacrosse team to a 14-8 home-opening win over Widener University on Saturday afternoon.

SU (2-2) reached double-digit goals with 8:10 still to play in the first half and held off the Pride's six-goal second half to come away with the victory.

Nine different players accounted for the 14 Crusader goals with Brynn Reid (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) and Kelcie Ehler (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) leading the way with three each. Ehler also added an assist for a four-point performance. Emma Jones (Wolfeboro, N.H./Brewster Academy) led all players with her five assists.

Goalie Carolyn Figliola (Weston, Conn./Weston) started the game and played the first half, making three saves on five shots. Alyssa Rothman (Trooper, Pa./Methacton) played the final 30 minutes and stopped seven of Widener's 13 Widener shots.

Susquehanna started the game on a 4-0 run with Reid accounting for three of those four goals. Widener (1-2) got on the board with 18 minutes remaining but SU responded with seven unanswered goals over a roughly 13-minute span to quickly make it a 10-goal game (11-1). Ehler had all three of her goals over that stretch.

The Pride's Caitlyn Mullner scored the final goal of the half but SU still went into halftime holding an 11-2 lead.

The teams traded goals to open the second half and the Crusaders maintained a 13-4 lead at the midway point of the half. While Widener scored five of the final six goals of the game, SU's lead was safe and the Crusaders went on to the 14-8 victory.

SU finished with 26 shots to Widener's 25 and won 17 of 24 draw controls.

Susquehanna remains at home to host Drew on March 21 at 1 p.m.
