Box Score COLORADO SPRINGS – The 2015 season opened on a high note – literally – for the Susquehanna women's lacrosse team as the Crusaders defeated Colorado College 6-5 in Colorado Springs on Monday afternoon.
Goals were at a premium with a combined four first-half goals between the teams. SU (1-0), however, had just enough offense to pick up the win while the team's defense limited the Tigers (1-2) to a mere five goals, including just one in the first half of play.
Kelcie Ehler led all players with four goals and Brynn Reid had one goal and two assists. Goalie Carolyn Figliola racked up 22 saves in her 60 minutes of action.
Ehler netted the first goal of the season after just over four minutes of action. Meredith Crane followed with a goal just two and a half minutes later for a 2-0 Susquehanna advantage.
The Tigers cut the lead to one (2-1) on a Mary Taussig goal with 5:45 remaining but Ehler responded with a goal less than three minutes later on a free position shot for a 3-1 game, which remained the score at halftime.
Ehler proceeded to score her third goal of the game after just over two minutes of action in the second half before Colorado's Sadie Cole responded with back-to-back goals to make it a 4-3 game with 24:17 still to play.
It was then the Crusaders' turn to score back-to-back goals, though, including Ehler's fourth of the game that made it a 6-3 game with 17 minutes remaining.
Colorado pulled back within two (6-4) at the 15:38 mark of the second half and scored again 12 minutes later to make it a one-goal game, 6-5.
Fortunately the SU defense kept Colorado off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game to preserve the 6-5 win.
