Box Score SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's tennis team picked up its first conference win of the season with a 5-4 victory over visiting Goucher on Sunday afternoon. The men, meanwhile, fell 9-0 to the Gophers.
Doubles proved to be the game changer for the women as they swept all three doubles matches and won two of six singles matches.
The first doubles team of Shelby O'Riley (Ware, Mass./Quabbin Regional) and Brielle Ferlauto (Neshanic Station, N.J./Somerville) won 8-6, followed by another 8-6 win from Alyssa Fleischman (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) and Claire Smyth (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area). Megan Rudloff (Milton, Pa./Milton Area) and Kelly Furlong (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) teamed up to win the third doubles match 8-2.
Ferlauto picked up a key win at second singles (6-3, 6-1) and Linsey Sipple (Erie, Pa./General McLane) won at the five spot, 6-0, 7-5, to clinch the Crusader victory.
For the men, they failed to win a match, falling 9-0. Three of the singles matches were 6-0, 6-0 decisions. Thomas Magill (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) did battle at the number six singles spot, falling 6-3, 6-1.
In doubles, SU picked up just one set at first and third doubles and was shut out at second doubles.
The men host Elizabethtown on March 31 at 3:30 while the women travel to Scranton on April 1 at 3:30 p.m.
