Baseball Extends Win Streak to Seven

MADISON, N.J. – The Susquehanna baseball team extended its winning streak to seven with Monday afternoon's 6-4 win at Drew University. The game was rescheduled from earlier in the season and capped off the three-game, regular season series between the teams with the Rangers winning the first two contests.

Power was not an issue as Justin Cassinelli (Valhalla, N.Y./Valhalla/SUNY Westchester CC) and Bryan Palsi (Brielle, N.J./Manasquan) each had solo shots in the game. Cassinelli finished with two hits, one RBI and one run scored.

Matt Cassinelli (Valhalla, N.Y./Valhalla/SUNY Westchester CC) started the game and tossed five innings of two-run ball with four strikeouts and zero walks. Three relievers combined to finish out the game with Jonny Vizcaino (La Jolla, Calif./Francis Parker) picking up the win in relief, his first victory of the spring.

Justin Cassinelli homered down the left field line in the top of the first inning and Palsi's solo shot the very next inning quickly made it a 2-0 Crusader lead.

Drew (6-11, 4-5), however, scored four runs from the fourth through seventh innings with one run in both the fourth and fifth innings and two runs in the seventh off Cole Luzins (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) to grab a 4-2 lead.

Susquehanna (10-7, 7-2) responded with three runs over the next two innings, though. Zach Leone (Pelham, N.Y./Fordham Prep/SUNY Westchester CC) drove in the first run of the eighth inning with a single to center and Vizcaino put SU ahead with a two-run single through the right side for a 5-4 Susquehanna advantage.

In the ninth, Nick Kennedy's (Brookeville, Md./Good Council) RBI single to left center allowed an insurance run to score for a two-run cushion (6-4).

Liam Conboy (Old Tappan, N.J./Northern Valley Regional) came in to pitch the ninth and walked the first two batters but with one out, the Crusader defense turned a game-ending double play.

Susquehanna returns home to host Keystone College on April 1 at 4 p.m.
