Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – The Susquehanna softball team capped off its spring training trip to Florida with two more wins on Friday to finish with a 7-3 record on the roadtrip.
SU defeated Roger Williams 3-0 in the morning before defeating Finlandia 12-4 in the second and final game of the day.
Against the Hawks, a three-run fourth inning was all the Crusaders needed in their 3-0 win against Roger Williams.
Morgan Lewis (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) went the distance, tossing a four-hit shutout with no walks and seven strikeouts. At the plate, Bridget Rafter (Highlands, N.J./Henry Hudson Regional) went 2-for-3 while Cierra Omlor (Salem, N.J./Salem) and Kelly Miller (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick) each picked up one hit and RBI apiece.
In the fourth, Rafter led off with a double to center field and with two outs, Omlor came through with a single to left field to score pinch runner Danielle Vollano (Bethpage, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran). Miller followed with a RBI triple to right field to score Omlor. The third and final run of both the inning and the game came on a wild pitch that allowed Miller to score for a 3-0 ballgame.
The Hawks had one hit in each of the remaining innings but never got those runners home as SU went on to the 3-0 shutout.
Despite falling behind early against Finlandia, the Crusaders had more than enough offense to come back for the 12-4 win. The Crusaders were aided by an eight-run third inning and finished with 12 hits to the Lions' six.
Freshman pitcher Jessica Juhlin (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) went one inning before giving way to Jamie Fesinstine, who picked up the win.
Finlandia scored three runs in the first and one in the second to take a 4-0 lead.
That lead did not last long, though, as SU exploded for eight runs in the third inning. Leigh Ann Greenwald (Piscataway, N.J./Immaculata) had one of the biggest hits in the inning with a bases-clearing double to centerfield.
The Crusaders maintained that 8-4 lead until tacking on two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings. McKayla Brady (Green Brook, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional) singled to center to drive in the first run of the sixth and she later scored on a sacrifice off the bat of Brynn Musser (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area).
An error and Brooke Kohler (Middlebury Center, Pa./Wellsboro) RBI single to left in the seventh scored SU's final two runs of the game for the final 12-4 score.
The Crusaders return to action on March 15 with a Landmark Conference doubleheader at Drew beginning at 1 p.m.
