Men's Lacrosse Stifles Washington & Jefferson

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna University's men's lacrosse team improved to 4-1 in Landmark Conference play with today's 13-3 win over visiting Washington & Jefferson College.

The Crusaders blanked the Presidents (7-6, 1-4) in two of the four periods to improve to 10-3 overall.

Jake Calder (Lutherville, Md. / Dulaney) led Susquehanna with three goals on seven shots on goal. Carmen Raroha (Voorhees, N.J. / Bishop Eustace) and Nick Reardon (West Deptford, N.J. / West Deptford) both contributed with two goals.

Goalie Jared Knowlton (North Salem, N.Y. / Kent School) totaled three saves. Freshman Pierce Mead (Mendham, N.J. / West Morris Mendham) had seven of the team's 26 ground balls and won 15 of the game's 18 face-offs.

The Crusaders doubled Washington & Jefferson in ground balls with 26 and were also 3-for-3 on man-up opportunities.

In the first quarter, Susquehanna took a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal by Nick Kifolo (Lewisburg, Pa. / Lewisburg) at the 1:54 mark.

The Crusaders picked it up in the second quarter and scored three of their six second-quarter goals within the first three minutes of the period. Susquehanna scored the final two goals of the period to go into halftime leading 7-2.

In the third quarter, SU dominated, adding five goals to its tally while shutting out the Presidents over that span.  Five different Crusaders scored in the third quarter for a 12-2 advantage with 15 minutes left to play.

In the fourth, both teams netted one goal apiece for the final 13-3 outcome.

The Crusaders continue Landmark Conference play on Saturday, April 18 at Scranton.
