Box Score 2 SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna Crusaders' softball team took two games from visiting Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen, winning 8-0 and 6-1 on Wednesday afternoon.
It was a 0-0 ballgame in the opening game until the bottom of the fifth inning when SU put up five runs on six hits in game one. It began when Alyssa Cantalini (Kitchener, Ontario / St. David Catholic Secondary) hit a double to left field. The next batter, Leigh Ann Greenwald (Piscataway, N.J. / Immaculata), singled to advance Cantalini to third, who scored on an error on the next play.
With back to back doubles from McKayla Brady (Green Brook, N.J. / Watchung Hills Regional) and Heather Pearson (Alexandria, Va. / Bishop Ireton), three more runs came around to score. Two batters later, Brynn Musser (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove Area) singled, scoring Pearson, for the fifth run of the inning.
The Crusaders' Cantalini started the sixth inning with a single followed by back-to-back doubles from Greenwald and Amanda Neveroski (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River North), which scored pinch runner Jessica Juhlin (), and Greenwald. Neveroski would end up sealing third and scoring on the throw to end the game.
SU's pitcher, Morgan Lewis (Newtown, Pa. / Council Rock North) picked up the win to bring her record to 10-3. She struck out 11 while giving up one hit and walking two.
Greenwald led Susquehanna in hits, with three, while Neveroski and Brady led the team in RBI's with two apiece.
Lebanon Valley's only hit came from Sammy Bost.
In game two, Susquehanna started early when Neveroski singled to right field and then stole second. Lauren Creamer (Langhorne, Pa. / Neshaminy) followed with a single that scored Neveroski. In the second inning, with the bases loaded, Greenwald doubled, clearing the bases for three RBIs and after the second, SU was up 4-0.
The third inning went scoreless for both the Crusaders and the Dutchmen. SU would score next in the bottom of the fourth when Claire Hanratty (Severna Park, Md. / Severna Park) started the inning with a single followed by a Kelly Miller (Kendall Park, N.J. / South Brunswick) double. Hanratty scored on a fielder's choice and Miller scored on a Greenwald triple to right center. A Lebanon Valley error allowed Greenwald to score and Neveroski to reach first. Two batters later, Emilie Boman (Tinton Falls, N.J. / Master Dei Prep) singled to score Neveroski. Susquehanna ended the inning with four runs to make 8-0.
The Dutchmen scored in the top of the fifth to keep the game going but the score remained 8-1 for the rest of the game.
Greenwald led SU again in hits, going 3-for-4, with four RBI's. Neveroski and Hanratty also contributed with two hits apiece. Pitcher Jamie Fesinstine picked up her eighth win of the season. She walked zero and struck out seven.
The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, April 18 with a doubleheader at Landmark Conference opponent Scranton.
