Box Score SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's lacrosse not only celebrated its seniors on Saturday, the squad also clinched a Landmark Conference playoff spot with a 16-9 win over Goucher.
The Crusaders (5-7, 3-2) used a 10-goal first half to help propel them to the win. Senior Meredith Crane (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) accounted for four of those goals to go along with two assists. Classmate Emma Jones (Wolfeboro, N.H./Brewster Academy) led all players with five assists while also scoring two goals.
Goucher (10-6, 2-3) scored just three goals over the first 30 minutes of play and had only 22 shots to SU's 38. The Gophers also committed 21 turnovers and Susquehanna goalie Carolyn Figliola (Weston, Coonn./Weston) tallied six saves.
The Crusaders jumped out to an 8-0 lead midway through the half. Kelcie Ehler (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) scored the first two goals of the game and back-to-back goals from Crane made it 7-0 with 16:08 to play.
SU led 9-1 before Goucher scored two unanswered goals for a 9-3 game. However, Annie McElaney (Natick, Mass./Natick) scored just inside the one-minute mark to give her team a 10-3 halftime advantage.
The Gophers scored three of the first four goals in the second half to pull within five (11-6) with 16:51 still to play. SU, though, countered with a 4-0 run; Brynn Reid (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) netted three of those four goals to put Susquehanna back ahead by nine (15-6) at the 11:28 mark.
Crane added an insurance goal with 2:38 remaining that gave her team a five-goal cushion (16-9).
Susquehanna hits the road to face Marywood on April 22 at 7 p.m.
