Baseball Ends Season on a Winning Note

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Susquehanna baseball team ended its 2015 season with a 14-7 win at Gettysburg on Monday afternoon.

SU (18-17) scored 13 runs over the final five innings of play, including a five-run fifth inning.

Josh Cimino (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright)
went 3-for-4 at the leadoff spot with three runs score. Justin Cassinelli (Valhalla, N.Y./Valhalla/SUNY Westchester CC) finished with three hits, two runs scored and one RBI while Bryan Palsi (Brielle, N.J./Manasquan) knocked in five runs on two hits. Cory Fallon (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) racked up four hits and three RBIs.

The Crusaders used five pitchers in the victory with Travis Eiswerth (Williamsport, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) getting credit for the win, his first of the season.

Susquehanna took a 1-0, first-inning lead which remained the score heading into the top of the fifth when Susquehanna put together a five-run inning. Cassinelli's double to center plated the first run of the inning and Palsi's two-run single up the middle made it a 4-0 game. Chris Ryan's (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) RBI single, combined with a Bullets' throwing error, accounted for the final two runs of the inning for a 6-0 Crusader lead.

Gettysburg got on the board with one run in the bottom of the fifth but the Crusaders scored three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh for an 11-1 ballgame.

The Bullets added one run in the bottom of the sixth and broke through for four runs in the bottom of the seventh to make it an 11-6 game.

Fortunately SU countered with three more runs in the top of the eighth when Fallon came through with a three-run double down the right field line, upping SU's lead to eight (14-6).

While Gettysburg added one run in its half of the eighth, reliever George Zirkel (Aberdeen, N.J./Matawan Aberdeen Regional) retired the Bullets in order in the ninth to end the game.
