Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Susquehanna University women's soccer team traveled to Lycoming College to compete in the ninth annual River Derby where SU won 3-0. This marks the second year in a row Susquehanna won the trophy.
The Crusaders (1-0) opened the scoring with a breakaway goal by Cassandra Coombs (Whitehouse Station, N.J. / Hunterdon Central Regional) in the 27th minute. SU's second goal came three minutes later when Emily Sullivan (Ambler, Pa. / Gwynedd Meray Academy) scored off of a corner kick, from Alex Edelman (Voorhees, N.J. / Eastern Regional), high into the middle of the box. The third and final goal of the night came early in the second half from Alyssa Bolger (Stanhope, N.J. / Pope John Regional) assisted by Grayclynn Juckes (Bloomsburg, Pa. / Central Columbia).
Susquehanna's defense kept Lycoming (0-1) to a total of four shots. Crusader goalie, Jordan Slocum (Eagleville, Pa. / Methacton) contributed three saves to earn the win and maintain the shutout. Eight players supplied SU's 18 shots with each taking at least one.
The Crusaders took a total of seven corner kicks while the Warriors were held to zero.
Susquehanna returns to action on September 5 at home against Penn St.-Harrisburg.
