Box Score READING, Pa. – Freshmen Emily Sullivan (Ambler, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy) and Kate Cantrell (Whippany, N.J./Whippany Park) provided all the offense for the Susquehanna women's soccer team in a 2-0 road win at Alvernia on Saturday afternoon.
Sullivan scored her team-leading third goal of the season while Cantrell netted her first collegiate goal late in the second half. Each scored on their only shots of the afternoon.
SU (2-1-1) took seven of its 11 shots over the final 45 minutes of play and had four corner kicks to Alvernia's two. Crusader goalie Jordyn Slocum (Eagleville, Pa./Methacton) racked up seven saves.
The teams traded shots in the early going. Each team had four shots after roughly 25 minutes of play although only one of SU's shots was on goal.
With just under 13 minutes to play, Alvernia's Jess Bernd had a header that was stopped by Slocum. The Crusaders never got a shot off for the final 22 minutes of the game and it stood 0-0 at the midway point of the game.
The momentum turned in favor of SU early in the second half when Sullivan got a foot on the ball in a scramble in the box for the 1-0 Crusader lead at the 49-minute mark.
Cantrell added an insurance goal with 8:33 remaining when she dribbled the ball past an Alvernia defender and to the right of the keeper and out of reach.
