Box Score SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's soccer team recorded its third-straight shutout with Wednesday's 1-0 win over visiting King's College.
The Crusaders have won two of those three shutouts and played Albright to a 0-0 tie on Sunday afternoon. In total, SU (3-1-2) boasts four shutouts overall this season and handed King's (2-1-0) its first loss of the season on Wednesday.
Freshman Emily Sullivan (Ambler, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy) scored the ultimate game winner off an assist from classmate Kate Cantrell (Whippany, N.J./Whippany Park) in the 75th minute of the game. It was her team-leading fourth goal of the season.
Susquehanna more than doubled the Monarchs in shots (14-6) and finished with three corner kicks to King's one. Crusader goalie Jordyn Slocum (Eagleville, Pa./Methacton) was forced to make just two saves all afternoon as King's put just two of its six shots on goal.
Each team managed just one shot apiece over the final 15 minutes of the first half. King's Ivy Nulton had a shot that sailed high in the 41st minute, marking the final shot of the half.
The Crusaders came out strong to start the second half, forcing Monarch's goalie Jessica Natale into making two saves in the first five minutes of play.
With just under 16 minutes to play, Sullivan finally broke the scoreless tie with her goal on Cantrell's cross to the far corner of the net. Susquehanna's defense prevented King's from taking a shot over the final 24 minutes of the game.
Susquehanna hits the road to face Shenandoah on Sept. 19 at 4 p.m.
