Box Score SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's soccer team defeated Wilkes University 1-0 at home Thursday night, the squad's fifth shutout of the fall.
Susquehanna (4-2-2) took eight shots, four on goal, while SU defense held Wilkes (2-6-1) to only two in the first half. The Crusaders have held four of their last five opponents without a goal.
Twelve minutes into the second half, SU'S Grayclynn Juckes (Bloomsburg, Pa. / Central Columbia) took possession of the ball and shot into the lower left corner of the goal to put the Crusaders up 1-0. Her first score of the season would be the winning goal as neither team scored during the remainder of the half.
Both teams took six shots in the second half to total 14 for SU and eight for Wilkes for the game. Susquehanna edged by Wilkes on corner kicks, 3-2.
Offensively, the Crusaders were led by Juckes and Alyssa Bolger (Stanhope, N.J. / Pope John Regional) with three shots apiece while Chloe Esienhuth (Watsontown, Pa. / Warrior Run) and Carly Smith (Fogelsville, Pa. / Parkland) took two. Goalie Jordyn Slocum (Eagleville, Pa. / Methacton) earned the win, and shutout, saving one shot on goal.
Susquehanna travels to Scranton on Saturday, Sept. 26 for its first Landmark Conference game. Game time is slated for 3:30 p.m.
