Box Score SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna field hockey team opened Landmark Conference action with a 2-1 home loss to Scranton on Saturday afternoon.
The Crusaders' Lauren Cram (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) scored a mere two minutes into the game but Scranton (8-0, 1-0) tied the game at the end of the first half and went ahead for good with seven minutes remaining in the game. It was Cram's second goal in as many games.
The Royals had 12 shots to SU's 10 while Susquehanna finished with seven penalty corners to Scranton's six. Cram led the Crusaders with four shots, all on goal. Goalie Alyssa Rothman (Trooper, Pa./Methacton) tallied five saves, all in the second half.
Susquehanna's final shot of the opening half came with nine minutes to play when Cayla Spatz's (Sinking Spring, Pa./Berks Catholic) shot went wide. Then, with 90 seconds left in the half, Scranton's Elizabeth Yorey scored following a penalty stroke to knot the game at one, which remained the score at halftime.
Susquehanna took four shots in the first 14 minutes of the second half and Cram fired off back-to-back shots over a three-second span at the 57-minute mark but both were saved by Scranton goalie Christina Black.
With exactly seven minutes left in the game, the Royals' Jessica Pankey scored off another penalty stroke to put her team up 2-1 and the Crusaders had only one shot over the remaining minutes of the game.
Susquehanna hits the road to face DeSales on Tuesday, Sept. 29 for a 3:30 p.m. game.
