Box Score CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Susquehanna field hockey team traveled to DeSales University to take on the Bulldogs on Tuesday afternoon and won 3-1.
The Crusaders (7-3, 0-1) capitalized on twenty three shots to DeSales' (1-8) six to earn the win. SU was the only team to put a point on the board in the first half when Taylor Secor (Stroudsburg, Pa. / Stroudsburg) tipped one in on the far post from an assist by Jordan Burkepile (Millerstown, Pa. / Greenwood).
The next goal came from SU's Lauren Cram (East Brunswick, N.J. / East Brunswick) off of an assist by Cayla Spatz (Sinking Spring, Pa. / Berks Catholic) nine minutes into the second half to bring the Crusaders up 2-0. Five minutes later, the Bulldogs answered with a goal of their own but it would be their only one.
Spatz scored Susquehanna's insurance goal with less than three minutes left to play off of a corner feed from Emily Novakovich (Saratoga, Calif. / Lynbrook).
The Crusaders were led in shots by Novakovich, with nine, and Cram with five, all of which were on goal. Alyssa Rothman (Trooper, Pa. / Methacton) allowed one goal and made three saves to earn the win. SU tallied nine penalty corners to DeSales' seven and had 18 shots on goal to the Bulldogs' four.
The Crusaders are on the road again on Saturday, Oct. 3 when they continue Landmark Conference action at Drew.
