Box Score SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Despite dominating nearly every statistical category, the Susquehanna women's soccer team played visiting Penn State Harrisburg to a 2-2 draw on Saturday night.
The teams traded scores with Harrisburg's Kristen Stark scoring the game-tying goal with 18 minutes to play in regulation.
SU (1-0-1) racked up 33 shots to the Lions' nine, with 18 in second half alone. They put 22 of those shots on goal, forcing Harrisburg goalies Alexis Quinn and Samantha Kutcher to make a combined 20 saves.
Cassandra Coombs (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) led the Crusaders with four shots while also adding one goal. Freshman Emily Sullivan (Ambler, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy) scored the team's second goal on her only shot of the game. Goalie Jordyn Slocum (Eagleville, Pa./Methacton) tallied five saves.
After just over 17 minutes of play, Coombs scored off an assist from Alyssa Bolger (Stanhope, N.J./Pope John Regional) for the 1-0 Susquehanna lead.
It remained 1-0 until the 50th minute when Harrisburg's Leann Kazawic scored an unassisted goal to make it 1-1.
Less than 20 minutes later, Sullivan responded with her second goal of the season to put her squad ahead 2-1 with roughly 23 minutes to play.
Unfortunately, almost exactly five minutes later, Kristen Stark scored the equalizer. With just 45 seconds remaining in regulation, Coombs fired off a shot that was saved by Quinn, thus sending the game to extra time.
Rachel Moyer (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) had a chance to win the game for SU with a shot in the 99th minute but that, too, was stopped by Quinn. SU did a corner kick off as time expired but Chloe Eisenhuth's (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) header went wide to end the game in a 2-2 tie.
Susquehanna remains at home to host Misericordia on Sept. 9 at 7 p.m.
