Box Score MADISON, N.J. – A 21-6 halftime lead did not hold up for the Susquehanna women's basketball team which lost 68-59 at Drew in double overtime.
The Crusaders (10-5, 3-4) led 13-3 after the opening quarter and gave up just another three points in the second quarter to take a 21-6 lead into the locker room at the midway point of the game.
Drew (7-10, 4-4) scored 27 points in the third quarter, though, to pull within 10 (42-32) and a last-second Hannah Miller three at the end of regulation tied the game at 49 and forced overtime.
The Rangers' Courtney Stephens forced double overtime with a layup that tied the game at 56 and Drew out-scored SU 12-3 in the second overtime period to pull away for the win.
Courtney Adams led Susquehanna with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Sofie Schedler added 13 points and five boards and Angie Schedler had 10 points, three assists and three steals.
SU finished with a field goal percentage of just 29 and shot 17.6 percent from three-point range. Drew was able to score 21 points off 17 Crusader turnovers.
Susquehanna led 7-0 less than four minutes into the game before a Hannah Miller three-point play at the 5:18 mark made it 7-3. Those marked the only points of the quarter for the Rangers and despite not scoring for the final 4:04 of the period, SU led 10-3 after one quarter of play.
The Crusaders were ahead by 18 (21-3) with 3:09 to play in the second quarter and did not give up a bucket until 42 seconds were left in the opening half when Courtney Trzasko's three made it 21-6 heading into halftime.
Susquehanna led by 20 (33-13) on Angie Schedler's three with 6:29 left in the third quarter but Drew cut the lead in half and trailed 40-30 with 1:24 to play in the third quarter. Two Angie Schedler free throws at the 14-second mark made it a 42-30 SU lead before Stephens' layup with nine seconds on the clock again made it a 10-point contest (42-32).
Drew's momentum continued into the fourth quarter. The Rangers opened the period on an 11-0 run to pull ahead 43-42. Each team saw shares of the lead for the remainder of regulation with Miller's three at the three-second mark forcing overtime.
Neither team took more than a two-point lead in the first overtime period and it stood 56-all as the clock hit zero.
Unfortunately for SU, the second overtime period was a different story as Drew held Susquehanna to just three points while putting 12 on the scoreboard, the final three of which came at the free throw line over the final 16 seconds of the period.
The Crusaders remain on the road to face Goucher on Jan. 20 at 7 p.m.
