Box Score SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's basketball team lost 95-90 in overtime to Moravian College Saturday evening.
SU's Courtney Adams led all players with a career-high 29 points while Angie Schedler followed with 19. Nikki Komara and Sofia Schedler finished the night in double digits with 16 and 13 respectively. Sofia Schedler dished out a game-high 10 assists, as well.
The Greyhounds (10-2, 3-0), who received votes in the most recent national poll, took an early lead. At the 2:44 mark of the first quarter, Sofia Schedler sank two free throws to tie the game for the first time at 16. However, Moravian proceeded to go on a 12-3 run to lead 28-19 at the end of the first quarter.
The Crusaders (8-3, 1-2) overcame a 12-point deficit to take their first lead of the game from a layup by Adams to make it 42-40 with 2:20 remaining in the first half. Susquehanna would hold onto that two-point lead to finish the first half ahead 47-45.
SU increased its lead to five early in the third quarter on a three-point play by Sofie Schedler (50-45). The Greyhounds pushed back with a 12-2 run to go up 59-42 with less than five minutes remaining in the quarter. A jumper by Komara tied the game at 61 with 2:18 remaining on the clock but a jumper by Moravian's Alexis Wright tied it at 63 with 48 seconds left to play in the third quarter and neither team scored as the clock ran out.
The fourth quarter saw nine lead changes and seven tied scores. The Crusaders took the lead early – only 13 seconds in the quarter – on a layup from Megan McFadden but the Greyhounds answered with a layup of their own to tie it at 65 with 9:18 remaining in the game. The game would be tied four more times before SU took a three point lead at 77-74 off of a Komara layup with 2:12 remaining in the game.
Moravian proceeded to go on a 6-3 run to tie the game at 80 with 29 seconds on the clock. In the following 20 seconds, Moravian went up 84-81 but with four seconds remaining, Angie Schedler connected on a three-pointer from an inbounds pass from Komara to take the game into overtime (84-84).
In overtime, Moravian struck first but the Crusaders answered to bring the game to its 13th tie at 86 on a layup from Angie Schedler. From this point the Greyhounds out-scored the Crusaders 9-4 to earn the win (95-90).
Susquehanna returns to action on Thursday Jan. 7 at home when the team hosts Scranton. The game starts at 7:00 pm.
