SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's swimming team played host to Division II Bloomsburg University on Friday night and was defeated 123-82.
The Crusaders started the night by taking second place in the 400 yard medley relay. Erin McElwee, Megan Duck, Maggie Palaski and Jessica Jozefiak finished with a time of 4:11.31. Lizzie Richart, Paige Wagner, Ashlee Weingarten and Samantha D'Amico came in fourth with a time of 4:22.37.
In the 1000 yard freestyle, Morgan Sattler set a personal record (PR) and came in third with her time of 11:33.34. Val Stearns and Isabella Cieri finished fourth (11:35.94) and fifth (12:18.83), respectively.
Katie Willis won the 200 yard freestyle and Palaski won the 100 yard butterfly. With a time of 1:57.55, Willis touched the wall three seconds faster than the second place Bloomsburg swimmer. Palaski's time of 1:01.29 in the 100 butterfly was five-tenths of a second faster than the second place Bloomsburg finisher. Julia Doherty came in third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:04.31.
In the 50 yard freestyle, Joann Butkus finished second with a time of 25.68 while Doherty and Palaski finished fourth (26.46) and fifth (26.99), respectively.
All three of Susquehanna's swimmers in the 200 yard IM set PR's. In third was Devon Niness (2:20.73), fourth place went to Jessica Jozefiak (2:22.46) while Weingarten came in sixth (2:24.34).
Willis took third in the 100 yard freestyle (54.33) while Butkus finished fifth (57.67) and D'Amico finished sixth (58.73). McElwee took second in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:04.25 while Stearns finished sixth (1:08.97).
In the 500 yard freestyle, Jozefiak (5:36.27), Lindsey VanKirk (5:38.67) and Cieri (6:02.60) took third, fourth and fifth respectively. Duck finished second in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:10.92), only .18 of a second behind the first-place Bloomsburg swimmer (1:10.74).
In the last event of the evening, the 200 yard freestyle relay, Susquehanna took the top three spots. The team of Willis, Weingarten, D'Amico and Butkus finished first (1:43.48). Sattler, VanKirk, McElwee and Stearns came in second (1:52.47) while Madeline Toohey, Michaella Currie, Cieri and Richart finished third (1:53.98).
Susquehanna returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 30 when the team travels to Scranton for a 1:00 p.m. meet.
