Two Home Wins for SU Women's Swimming & Diving

QUICK STORY: The Susquehanna women's swimming & diving team defeated both Marywood and Drew University on Saturday. Against Marywood, SU scored 221 to the Pacers' 58 and against Drew, the River Hawks scored 182 points to the Rangers' 89.

RECORD: The River Hawks are now 2-0 overall with a 2-0 mark in Landmark Conference action.

FIRST-PLACE FINISHES: The River Hawks started the swimming events off on a high note taking both the first and second-place finishes in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Erin Mcelwee, Joann Butkus, Maggie Palaski and Katie Willis won the event with their time of 1:52.65 while the team of Megan Shaffer, Megan Duck, Lizzie Reichart and Morgan O'Hara finished second (1:57.42).

Caitlin Kelly and Erin Wetmore set personal records (PR) in the 1000-yard freestyle with their first (11:06.51) and second-place (11:39.46) finishes. Shaffer set a PR in the 100-yard backstroke with a first-place time of 1:02.31 while Butkus won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.96.

In the 200-yard butterfly, Wetmore and Collen Walsh took first (2:27.17) and second (2:29.38), respectively. Both times were PR's.  Willis won the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyles with her times of 25.31 and 55.23.

Butkus, Duck and Paige Wagner took the top three spots in the 200-yard breaststroke with times of 2:31.72, 2:36.54 and 2:46.42, respectively.

Palaski won the 100-yard butterfly with her time of 1:01.63 while Butkus set a PR in the 100-yard IM with her first-place time of 1:03.14.

OTHER NOTABLE FINISHES: Caroline Henderson and Hannah Finton took second (2:03.15) and third (2:03.53), respectively in the 200-yard freestyle with Finton setting a PR.

McElwee finished third in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.09 while Duck (1:12.49) and Wagner (1:15.30) finished second and third in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Kelly, McElwee and Cate Welch finished in third (2:18.82), fourth (2:21.00) and fifth (2:23.41), respectively in the 200-yard backstroke with Kelly and Welch setting PR's.

In the 500-yard freestyle, SU took second through fourth-place with Shaffer and Finton setting PR's in second (5:29.40) and third (5:32.74) while Henderson finished fourth (5:33.84). Walsh finished third in the 100-yard butterfly with a PR time of 1:05.60 while Wetmore finished fourth (1:06.06).

In the last event of the day – the 400-yard freestyle relay – SU finished second (3:50.29) and third (3:59.30). The team of Kelly, Finton, Shaffer and Willis placed second while the team of Palaski, O'Hara, Walsh and Richart finished in third.
