Box Score SCRANTON, Pa. – The Susquehanna women's basketball team took on No. 4 Scranton and lost 66-44 on the road Wednesday night despite trailing by just six points at halftime.
The Crusaders were led by Nikki Komara with 12 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Angie Schedler totaled nine points while Sofie Schedler and Megan McFadden scored seven each.
The Royals (21-0, 12-0) jumped out to an early 7-0 lead at the 8:03 mark. The Crusaders (13-6, 6-5) came within three (7-4) less than a minute later off a Courtney Adams jumper followed by a Komara layup. Scranton ended the quarter on an 11-6 run to lead 18-10.
Susquehanna scored first in the second period to cut the lead to five (20-15) when McFadden made a three-pointer at the 9:34 mark followed by a Komara layup with 8:48 on the clock. The Royals hit a trey to go up 23-15 with 6:23 remaining in the half. The Crusaders came within four points four times throughout the rest of the half but Scranton ended the half up by six (32-26).
The Royals went on a 17-6 run to open the third quarter and take a 17-point lead (49-32). Adams and Angie Schedler split the points as Schedler netted a three-pointer and Adams hit a jumper and a free throw.
Starting with a trey from Komara at the 8:35 mark in the fourth quarter, the Crusaders went on a 7-3 run that ended with an Angie Schedler layup at the 6:14 mark that cut the lead to 12 (54-42). Unfortunately that was the closest SU got for the remainder of the night as the Royals finished the game on a 12-2 run to clinch the win (66-44).
Susquehanna returns home to host Drew on Saturday at 4 p.m. It is both Pepsi Day and Senior Day for the program. The team's senior – Sofie Schedler – will be honored prior to the start of the game and there will be free Pepsi beverages and hot dogs throughout the afternoon.
